Qufu

This tiny town in Shandong province is the birthplace of the father of Chinese philosophy, whose descendants can still be found here. The three must-see places are the Confucius Cemetery, Temple and Mansions, but the fresh little town, surrounded by a wall has more to offer. Its morning viridity, charming buzz and yet peaceful nature provides a perfect sneak peek into the everyday lives of Chinese people. While 2,500 years ago it was the capital of Lu State, today it has only 60,000 inhabitants including its peripheries, that is considered a rather small town in China. This is where in 551 A.D., Confucius was born: a man whose philosophy forever changed the way his people live and think. This philosophy also accounts for the siginificant differences between East and West, as it governs social and business etiquette.
